Happiness Hacking (Centering Prayer)

Tuesday, March 20, 2018 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM

Dr. Mark Baxter, a chiropractor who understands the importance of a healthy mind to have a healthy body, leads our bi-weekly group meditations at Stillpoint (8072 W. Sahara Ave., Suite D Las Vegas, NV 89117) to help people connect with others  and start learning how to "hack" their own happiness.

Some of the benefits of meditation include:

• Feeling more at peace

• Handling stress better

• Improving relationships with others

• Feeling more connected to family and friends in community

• Connecting with your intended life path

• Connecting with a greater sense of purpose

• Feeling more confident that you are fulfilling your destiny

In addition to the general benefits of meditation, the group meditation format further connects individuals to the awareness of others and promotes harmony and positive-thinking towards others in our everyday living.

By gaining control over your thoughts through meditation, you can better direct your thoughts and energies into positive and uplifting channels.

Dr. Baxter leads these meditation sessions utilizing the Centering Prayer method of meditation which involves a time to talk to each other first, followed by a moment to center yourself individually with a word, group meditation, and use of a gong to open and close meditation.

The meditation portion is approximately 20 minutes, so this style of meditation is great for those new to meditation as well as long-time meditation practitioners who want to meditate in a group setting to experience the deeper sense of connection with others that is possible through the group meditation experience.

Developed by Fr. Thomas Keating, Centering Prayer is a method of prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of God's presence in Contemplative Prayer. Beyond thoughts, words and emotions, Centering Prayer leads to a resting in God. Praying in a group setting creates an atmosphere where the mind is quieted more easily, a sacred community is formed, and practitioners experience a depth that bears fruit in spirit, body and mind.

There are no prerequisites to have any background in prayer to come and take part in this relaxing and contemplative prayer style so feel free to come and check it out!
